    Dig this…I think this type of device is an example of how our phones will start connecting back more often to the physical world to create something whimsical and fun. Just wait until 3D printing becomes the norm.     Nissan Gunning For Leadership In Electric Vehicles

    Quick Spin: Nissan Leaf the tip of mass market EV spear

    Nissan has gone into a back room, pulled out its Ouija board and decided that the time is right to make a huge bet. The Japanese automaker, along with its partner Renault, wants to be the world leader in pure electric vehicles. Even though you can go buy an Altima hybrid right now, the company didn’t develop its own gas-electric technology (the sedan uses Toyota tech). This time around, Nissan believes the future belongs to vehicles without an internal combustion engine (ICE) and is preparing to put its own foot forward. It’s way too early to know for sure, but Nissan’s gamble could pay off handsomely. ToyotaGeneral Motors and others are adding plugs to vehicles with liquid-fueled engines, but no major automaker has claimed the pure EV pole position. If everything goes right, Nissan will be that automaker.

    The flagship vehicle for the automaker is, of course, the Leaf EV hatchback, which was unveiled in August and recently made its North American debut in Los Angeles. We were on hand to take a Leaf mule out for a short (very short) spin and heard directly from Nissan how this unique-looking EV will secure Nissan’s place in the auto industry as tremendous changes take place in the coming years. Should I dispose of it in a landfill? Should I convince people it’s a space beacon and I’m conducting a wild experiment communicating with aliens.     Catching up on the internets since getting back from a West coast trip.  I was in Las Vegas for a long weekend and one of the most interesting new developments there is the “City Center” which is an $8 billion project going up in the center of the strip.  Its a joint project between MGM Grand and Dubai World.

    I guess you could say it could have happened at a better time, and both organizations have been suing each other over who will finish the funding for the project, but it seems like the project will be completed and when I was out there construction seemed to be continuing.

    When you look at the photos of the project, does it remind you of anything?   I knew there was something, but it was my friend Paul Pope, who I was there with, who totally nailed the comparison.   You can see it in the video above. Epcot Center was developed as a “City of the Future” back in the early 80s.  The City Center is such an eerie throwback to it.

    It has the same circular design and was created by a team of diverse top notch architects. Same monorail tram running around the facility.  Of course, in typical Vegas fashion there is no way to actually “walk” to this development…at least not outside.

    Where Epcot Center has become a discarded joke, and never lived up to a place where people would actually live…The question is, will this development share the same future?   I think it has a better chance for staying power and growing a bit of a community…if only that its being built in the place where, surrounded by theme park hotels, it doesn’t have to go far to look timeless, and there are such a lack of “community” options in Las Vegas, it might actually be attractive to a new set of modern residents.

    This is one of the best purchases I have made lately.  Its a fantastic product from a company called H2O Audio, which according to their site is “one of the fastest growing companies in America”. I can understand why, as I am very satisfied after my first run with their Amphibx waterproof iPod case and headphones.  Its one of those products that gives a sense of amazement for the times we live in.  My iPod goes into this holster and it wraps comfortably around my waist and sits in the middle of my back.  The plug connects to waterproof earphones up your back and plays clear sound under water. Since someone ran a red light in the East village and hit me on my motorcycle in 2007, I have been swimming as a form of therapy.  I was a good swimmer as a boy and I have enjoyed getting back into it.  The only bother is the silent monotony of it.  This allows me to listen to music while I swim and actually makes me work out longer and more consistently.  I highly recommend for anyone who uses the pool for exercise or does a lot of other water sports.
