Great design.

How great is this book cover design from Jennifer Carrow for Stacey D’Erasmo’s The Sky Below? I found it over at the Book Cover Archive, which is a pretty easy way to accidentally kill half an hour.

Great photo series on The Morning News but I couldn’t disagree more with this being depressing. In fact I think its kind of exhilarating. It feels like nature doing away with something unnecessary and personally I think represent the best of what has come out of our most recent recession.
It happens to me every year. As Christmas approaches and retailer reports reach a fever pitch, I undertake a yearly analysis of corporate culture and seek out the writings with opposing viewpoints. This year its been revisiting videos like the Story of Stuff and their new one on Cap & Trade and finishing Life Inc. As far back as I can remember, I have always hated shopping malls. I find them to be soulless and lonely. In his book Douglas Rushkoff recounts the history of malls and the creation of “atmospherics”, the science of manipulating shoppers to buy more. Hopefully the loss of these palaces to consumerism will mean a return to local, connected and meaningful planning for our communities.

Dead malls are among the most depressing things in the world.
Pure genius…and just in time for my Christmas shopping.

It’s here!
The War and Peace of cute suicidal pet books hit the shelves today to change the face of literature as we know it. I don’t want to brag, but it’s getting better reviews than the new Philip Roth. If you like pets, America, books or shit jokes, you owe it to yourself to buy a gazillion now. They make perfect stocking stuffers, wedding presents and projectiles.
Support your local indie bookshop, unless it’s already gone out of business in which case order here.
I just ordered this. Great model for collaborative book design.
