I’m not sure about the KIN product but I like their commitment to the surprise live music experience. Will be curious if their plan is to sustain this kind of program over time.
The Apps4brands conference I attended last week was a great reminder of the importance of App development as part of your product and marketing mix. I’ve noticed three articles in the past week about qr code drive coupon applications. As was discussed at the conference, the entire application market is still in its infancy, even with 81,000 applications, there is no doubt this number will drive towards the millions in the next year. We should see a big wave in this type of scannable, redeemable commerce app over the next few months.
Will be curious to see if any brands take advantage of this functionality for the holidays.

Starbucks is introducing two new applications for the iPhone that will make it easier for java junkies to get their fix — and make it possible to pay right from the phone, which has broad implications for mobile commerce.
The myStarbucks application has a slew of features that make it easier to remember your friend’s favorite drinks and to locate nearby Starbucks stores. More interesting is a test of a Starbucks card, which will allow people in select West Coast stores to pay for coffee using a bar code on a phone’s screen.

Get the fuck outta here with that !!! don’t make DOTS look like Extreme Men’s toiletries. Just keep DOTS looking the way they have always looked. I guarantee absolutely nobody has ever complained about the DOTS package design!
The new DOTS Flavors/Elements :
WATER = GREEN TEA - people that eat regular DOTS drink Sunny Delight and Mountain Dew, not Green Tea .
EARTH = POMEGRANATE - the Pomegranate was the Antioxidant saviorfruit of 2002, let Mangosteen or Acai get their shine. People that eat regular DOTS eat mealy Red Delicious apples from gas stations if they eat fruit at all.
FIRE = CINNAMON - Hot Tamales without the good outer layer.
AIR = WINTERGREEN - If you ever see someone eat an entire box of Wintergreen flavored DOTS on their own free will, get the f*&# away from them…
I’m not sure how old this redesign is, but the latest Radisson hotel logo typography has to be one of the worst I have seen in years. They might as well have used Comic Sans.
My friend Dianne, an agent for CAA, has been a long time supporter and friend of Zach Galifianakis and has always encouraged me to check out his shows. I’ve seen him test out his new material at Seth Herzog’s downtown comedy show, SWEET, a few times. His one liners are usually hilarious and his act is always challenging, borderline uncomfortable and memorable.
There is a great article about him in the New York Times from last weekend. His new film The Hangover comes out this weekend and from the looks of the trailer and the early word of mouth, it should be an enormous hit. Its the kind of profile the Times writes as a real “coming out” piece. The one where many, many people who have never heard of him will now check out his work. From the brief times I’ve met Zach it couldn’t be happening to a nicer guy.
I was impressed with ABSOLUT when they gave him the artistic control to create the ads with Tim and Eric that he did. He made the most of the opportunity, creating something that is quintessentially his while (whether by design or not) featuring the brand in a way that most spirits ads would never dare.
It describes the ups and downs of his career and the time it took for him to finally discover his own brand of comedy. Following the Malcolm Gladwell Outliers theory, he is probably getting near his 10,000 hours of comedic work and if you seen him live recently it shows.
What I find appealing about Zach’s act is that everytime I’ve seen him, I have had a moment of uncomfortabilty and tension during the show and without fail, I have thought about the performance for days afterwards. I will literally find myself walking by myself on the street days later and laugh out loud thinking of a bit from the show that drew complete uncomfortable silence from the crowd. Its all so considered and uniquely his and at the end of the day, most ground-breaking stuff is.
In the article he mentions that one of the funniest standup acts was Slovin and Allen’s “Time Machine” routine from the Luna Lounge shows from the mid 90s when were performing standup together. I remember seeing Eric and Leo perform there, but never saw their time machine bit. After watching it, you can tell why it was influential to him as its hilarious, smart, ridiculous, campy and kinda sweet all at the same time.
Simple, well executed and acted. A film producer friend of mine once said that every great project she ever did was based on two things: Relationships and food. The timing and success of the film are especially poignant with the modern concerns around balancing virtual and physical experience.
Schweppes does a good job of playing a supporting role, letting the story stand on its own and allowing consumers to connect and discover.
Great to see colorful deck chairs in the streets of Times Square today. This area will soon be closed off to traffic, reducing the total lanes moving through Times Square to just three. I personally think this is an outstanding (baby) step towards more positive urban planning solutions for our great city.
