Interview with Joseph Holmes of Joe’s NYC

Good read published a couple of weeks ago on Peta Pixel.  Joe is one of the nicest guys around and great photographer. I had the pleasure of meeting him during his participation in PHTHRD II.  I am inspired by his dedication and humbleness.

PHTHRD 3 was last week.  Its likely the last LVHRD for a while.  Even if it were the last, I think it was a great one to go out on.  It brought back many of the essential elements that have made LVHRD great for over 3 years…
It was built upon a simple idea, and it encouraged the active participation of the people attending.
It brought great partners (Villain, URDB, Kaiju, Catchdubs) together to help execute it, and thus brought the community together more closely.
It involved great sponsor partners (Dewars, Saucony, Brooklyn Brwerey, Time Out) who understood and believed in the essential idea and the value of audience and exposure the event provided.
It leveraged digital media channels and an interesting new way.  There are 4000 photos from a single party, to establish the record.
It harkened back to our earlier days when the aesthetic was just cardboard and lo-fi venues which fit with the manic non-stop camera flashes and allowe for some flexiblity with the impromptu records being set by the attendees and certified by the URDB.
At the end of the day it worked and was a great time.

PHTHRD III is tonight.  This event is the last of our 08/09 season and I’m excited about the direction we took with it.  LVHRD has always been about trying to amplify the interaction of attendees at our events.  Whether or not we acheive that all the time is a different story, but that is a calculated intention with many of our past concepts.   The idea of everyone coming together to help set a world record for the most photographed party is one that I think aligns perfectly with LVHRD’s sense of community, playfullness and creativity.  Thankfully something like the Universal Record Database exists to make the whole thing seem that much more legitimate.
If you’re reading this and want to join us, just visit HERE and use the discount code “thehappycorp” for $10 off the ticket.

After a couple of years, its happening again.  The team has been working on this one for a while and it should be an amazing night.  The venue is smaller then MoMA, so tickets will likely go fast this week.  Get em at LVHRD.com.
