    No one knew where this was a from. It was taken in 1939, so it was likely taken by my Grandfather on his travels in the Navy.  He always said, during that time it was one of the only ways to really see the world.

    My Grandfather Elmer was in the Navy and was on a submarine during World War II.  I remember visiting Pearl Harbor with him and hearing him tell the story about being sent out soon after that.   He is on the far left in this photo.  It could be a film still from South Pacific.  He looks so serious.  Its a strange photo to me because growing up I can never remember a time when he wasn’t smiling and joking with people.  He filled up the room with positive energy.
