Truly. Watch the video to experience this live. This kinda reaction just sums alot of this whole movement up. Its a “you’ve gotta be kidding me” moment.

Have only seen the segments of this that were aired by O’Reilly. But what they didn’t show can be seen here.
Its no wonder they didn’t air it as it, again, it shows Jon Stewart’s quick wit, intellect, reasoning and understanding of politics as he absolutely annihilates windbag extraordinaire Bill O’Reilly.
Favorite quote, “I’m not saying your mothers a whore, I’m just saying she has sex for money…with people.”

Interesting interview with Charlie Senate in regards to the future models for newspapers and his role in Global Post. I’ve talked about this in the past and am very interested in this discussion. Its an example of the more aggressive pay for content stance that Rupert Murdoch has taken recently. The Times ran a piece on the new site. Its a microcosm for industry change in the evolving digital world and its a discussion that is highly relevant to the music business where solutions continue to remain elusive.
Despite the interesting business approach, I personally feel the site won’t go far with the current design. They need to move quickly to improve the user interface if they want to win over those who are ready and willing to pay for better journalism.
Some interesting points and quotes from the interview:
- Resurrecting the notion of “super-stringers”, where if you’re a journalist who wants to cover the world, you need to treat your job like a business, but you also need a home base because working as a freelancer is hard
- Offering significent shares to correspondents
- “Great journalism is expensive…but it also has value”
- 65 correspondents in 50 countries file a story once a week
- Membership that allows for participatory journalism including conference calls with correspondents and the Global 10, which gives you business trends in undercovered markets that are emerging business markets
- “Those entrepreneurial streaks that run through reporting can apply in a business community and within a business model”

The 24-Hour News Cycle
I didn’t take it to be quite as condescending as Will takes it, but he is hilariously spot-on. Good for Obama for saying it. I interpret his statement more as…hey, I have actual work to do and don’t have time to obsess over the news (or Twitter or Tumblr or fill in the ______) my entire day.
via soupsoup:
“My favorite part of President Obama’s press conference yesterday was when he answered one of Chuck Todd’s pesky questions with, “I know everybody here is on a 24-hour news cycle. I’m not.”
I am totally using this in all my interactions: A vague, general, perhaps bullshit yet still portentous and wise sense that you are the only person in the room, or even the planet, who understands the big picture.
If you can pull this off, you can get away with anything. Disagreements with your boss? Arguments with your spouse? Caught cheating on your taxes? You don’t understand. I see the big picture; you don’t, you can’t. In 15 years, you’ll grow to see I am right. Thus, please let me continue to strangle this drifter until you ultimately come around to fathoming the foresight of my actions.
I am not saying that President Obama is wrong. (I don’t think he is … but what the hell do I know?) I am just saying that “I know you’re on a 24-hour news cycle. I’m not” is going to be my response any time anyone questions anything I do, pretty much from now on.”
