After Todd Bieber found an undeveloped roll of film in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, he made it his mission to find the owners. In his quest for adventure he made this short video in an attempt to reconnect with the them.

Because of her job at ABC, my brothers wife Yvonne gets Academy screeners each year around the holidays. Last weekend we watched Up In The Air which comes out on Christmas. Mid-movie my brother wondered aloud how much American and Hilton had spent for a partnership with the film because of the incredible amount of logo placements throughout the movie.
There is an article today in Ad Age that covers the placement and dicusses how actually no money was exchanged but in fact each brand traded the exposure for no production costs on the usage of the facilities (airports, hotels, planes etc).
At the end of the day the formula for success with brands in this manner is the carefully crafted balance of art vs. commerce. This partnership works because they aligned themselves with a Oscar caliber film and the nature of George Clooney’s character allows for the plausible integration based on how intrinsic the brands are to his characters self-worth. They are currently measuring the halo effect through social media and receiving positive feedback but since the message of the film is actually one of renewed connection to home and family and the displacement of the road-warrior, I wonder if it will provide the long term ROI they are hoping for.
Like this iPhone app because it forces you to talk to other people…and breaks down the uncomfortable language barrier with a little humor. Anyone who has traveled in a foreign country and not been able to speak knows a little laughter can make all the difference.

An ad all over the Brussels airport. Kevin Costner promoting Turkish airlines. It seemed to me a perplexing spokesperson. I wonder if they have done surveys in Turkey that reveal he is a popular and well known figure there. Either way he has gone completely off the deep end with the Botox. It almost looks like this was shot the day after a procedure.
Very impressed with Brussels. I haven’t been here since traveling through for two days on a trip the summer prior to graduating college. The airport is nearly indiscernible from an American airport. All the ads are in English, the signs lead with English, cars are displayed with video terminals speaking in English, there is a gleaming Starbucks and your typical “brew-pub”.
It markets itself as a gateway to Europe and from my brief sense of it, they are certainly making it comfortable for American business people. The city itself is as beautiful as I remember it and I’m looking forward to exploring a little more in the next two days.
