    Been waiting on this one.

You still have to unlock the car initially with your card, but you can lock/unlock it after that the rest of your trip and it has the ability to easily extend reservations, which traditionally has been an annoying process as well as locate your car by honking it remotely with your phone.

The other day I lost my keys. It was the first time that had happened in years.  Its such a depressing and debilitating feeling. I carry around 6 keys on my ring everyday, so you immediately think about all the steps you’ll have to go through to replace the locks, reach out to your landlord for new building keys etc etc.
In looking for spare copies of my main keys, I looked through all the drawers in my apartment and took out all the loose keys that were laying around.  I had a couple of backups, but I also had 20 different keys that didn’t go to anything in my life.  They were leftovers from my past.  Keys that unlocked doors that no longer exist.  I’ve always been attracted to the idea of keys as symbols to so much in our lives and I find the classic key a source of design inspiration, especially at a time when, pretty soon, your iphone can unlock your car.
I eventually found my original set of keys, but I took this photo to document the 20 forgotten keys from my past.

One of my favorite companies.  I was just saying hello to Joel Johnson over at Zipcar today after stopping by to pick up my updated Zipcard,  They have always been open to new ideas, especially Joel and his New York team.   It shows in the culture of their entire company and shines through with ideas like this.  Good concept, simply and inexpensively executed.
